v2.0.1 · 188.8 MB
Own your knowledge base in portable Markdown files: a databaseless wiki for desktop and self-hosted use.
Core Features
- Databaseless flat-file wiki: no server database needed
- Full WYSIWYG Markdown editor with YAML frontmatter support
- KaTeX math and Mermaid diagram rendering
- Unlimited page revisions and file attachments (including clipboard image paste)
- Namespaces for content categorization, public/private browsing modes
What It Can't Do
- •Desktop-to-remote sync requires manual configuration of server URL and credentials in Settings; it does not auto-discover instances. After migrating from legacy v1.x, move the homepage document to the root directory as v2 redefines the index page. Docker container uses plain HTTP by default; add a reverse proxy for HTTPS. Always set a strong SECRET environment variable when self-hosting.
Use Cases
- Personal knowledge base or note-taking where data should stay in your own Markdown files
- Team or project wiki self-hosted on your own infrastructure, with optional remote sync
WikiDocs is a privacy-friendly, databaseless wiki designed for people who want complete ownership of their knowledge base. Content is stored as plain, portable Markdown files with YAML frontmatter, not in a database or proprietary cloud format. It can be used as a standalone Electron desktop app (keeping data completely local) or self-hosted via Docker (optional remote access and sync). Core features include a full WYSIWYG Markdown editor, KaTeX math, Mermaid diagrams, unlimited page revisions, attachment and image uploads (clipboard supported), namespace categorization, public/private browsing, syntax highlighting, multi-language UI, dark mode, and Swagger-documented REST API for integration. WikiDocs 2.x is a complete TypeScript rewrite (NestJS backend, Angular web client, Electron desktop) with active sync between desktop and self-hosted instance. The original PHP legacy version is still available in the 'legacy' branch. Compared to Notion or Confluence, WikiDocs is lighter, simpler, and fully portable, with no database management and no vendor lock-in, while being more feature-rich than a simple static site generator.
