What It Can't Do

  • The initial installation will format the USB drive – back up important data first.,On some older motherboards or with certain Secure Boot settings, you may need to disable Secure Boot or use Ventoy's Secure Boot enrollment.,A few ISO files may require enabling Ventoy's 'compatibility mode' (press F1/F2 at the boot menu) to boot correctly.,For ISOs larger than 4GB, use exFAT or NTFS file system on the USB drive.

Use Cases

  • Create a multi-boot USB containing multiple Windows/Linux installation ISOs
  • Carry a rescue toolkit with PE, antivirus, and partition tools on one drive
  • Test various Linux distros quickly by just copying new ISOs to the drive

Detailed Introduction

Ventoy is a 100% open-source utility that turns a USB drive into a multi-boot device. You simply copy ISO/WIM/IMG/VHD(x)/EFI files onto the drive, and Ventoy presents a boot menu for selection. It supports x86 Legacy BIOS, IA32/x86_64 UEFI, ARM64 UEFI, and MIPS64EL UEFI, along with both MBR and GPT partition styles. Over 1300+ ISO files from Windows, Linux, Unix, ChromeOS, and other systems have been tested. It also supports Secure Boot, Linux persistence, Windows/Linux auto installation, and a plugin framework for customization. Unlike tools like Rufus, Ventoy does not require formatting the drive each time you change the boot image—just add or remove files freely.

Troubleshooting & FAQ (1)

How-to
How to install Ventoy without destroying existing data on USB?

Ventoy officially supports non-destructive installation using the -n option. On Linux, run: Ventoy2Disk.sh -n /dev/sdX. On Windows, check 'Non-destructive installation' in the GUI. Limitations apply: existing partitions must not overlap the area required for Ventoy. See https://www.ventoy.net/en/doc_non_destructive.html for details. Tested on Ventoy 1.1.12+
