Detailed Introduction

Clypra is a modern, free and open-source video editor (MIT license) that brings professional-grade editing to everyone. Built on Tauri v2, React 19, and Rust, it delivers native desktop performance with hardware acceleration (VideoToolbox, D3D11VA, VAAPI). The core editor, effects engine, and UI are completely free with no watermarks or limits. Unlike CapCut, which is proprietary and subscription-based, Clypra is community-driven and transparent. Compared to Shotcut, Clypra offers a more polished timeline interface and faster decoding through predictive prefetching. Optional AI-powered features (pro layer) add auto-captions, smart reframing, and natural language editing. Supports macOS, Windows, Linux, and soon iOS/Android via Capacitor.
