v0.5.2 · 25.2 MB
A wifite-style Wi-Fi auditor that runs natively on Windows and macOS—just plug in a supported USB adapter.
Core Features
- Identical experience on Linux, Windows, and macOS with prebuilt binaries
- Pure-Python userspace drivers: monitor mode and injection with zero external dependencies
- WPA/WPA2 handshake and PMKID capture with hashcat-ready .hc22000 export
- Full WPS suite: dual-mode PixieDust, PushButton PSK extraction, resumable PIN brute-force
- Pure-Python WEP suite: ARP replay, ChopChop, and PTW key recovery
What It Can't Do
- •Requires at least one specific supported USB adapter—built-in laptop Wi-Fi cards will not work. The adapter is claimed exclusively by the tool and cannot be used for normal networking while installed. Only audit networks you own or are explicitly authorized to test; unauthorized Wi-Fi cracking is illegal in most jurisdictions. The tool manipulates hardware registers directly without kernel guardrails, so use at your own risk. WPS and WEP attacks only succeed against devices with the corresponding vulnerabilities and may fail on newer firmware.
Use Cases
- Penetration testing networks you own or are authorized to audit
- Wi-Fi security research on Windows or macOS without a Linux VM
- Checking whether your own router's WPS implementation is vulnerable
- Teaching and demonstrating wireless protocol weaknesses
Detailed Introduction
wifit3 is a standalone USB Wi-Fi auditing toolkit that reimagines wifite for the cross-platform era. Its key advantage over wifite2 and the aircrack-ng suite: it ships with lightweight Python ports of Linux kernel wireless drivers, so monitor mode and frame injection run entirely in user space—no kernel driver hell on Linux, no NDIS limitations on Windows, and zero runtime dependencies. It supports WPA/WPA2 handshake capture with .pcap and .hc22000 export, PMKID harvesting, WPA3 EvilTwin downgrade attacks, a full WPS recovery suite (PixieDust in two modes, PushButton PSK extraction, resumable PIN brute-force), and a pure-Python WEP suite (ARP replay, ChopChop, PTW). Multi-card aggregation lets you capture on several adapters while injecting with a dedicated one. A real-time Textual-based dashboard covers 2.4/5GHz channel-hopping scans, client fingerprinting, hidden-network decloaking, and live packet rates. Hardware support spans 20 chipsets from Atheros, MediaTek, Realtek, and Ralink, including popular ALFA adapters. Prebuilt binaries for Windows, Linux, and macOS make setup a one-click affair.
Troubleshooting & FAQ (2)
TroubleshootingHow to fix 'Failed to parse pyproject.toml' TOML parse error showing '<!DOCTYPE html>' when running uv run?
This error means your pyproject.toml file contains GitHub HTML page source instead of the actual file contents, caused by downloading the file/page incorrectly (e.g., saving the raw webpage). Fix it by cloning the repository properly:
git clone https://github.com/derv82/wifit3
cd wifit3
uv sync
uv run wifit3
Do not download pyproject.toml individually from the GitHub web UI. After a proper clone, uv sync will resolve dependencies and uv run wifit3 will start the app.
compatibility/troubleshootingDoes wifit3 support the RALINK MT7601U WiFi adapter?
Yes. Support for the RALINK MT7601U was added by porting its driver via PR #74, which was merged and shipped in wifit3 release v0.4.2. Update wifit3 to v0.4.2 or newer to use this adapter with monitor mode and injection. If the adapter still fails after updating, open a new issue on the GitHub repository.

Select the adapter on the wifit3 splash screen, click Uninstall, confirm, and accept the elevation prompt. Then unplug and re-plug the device to hand it back to your OS Wi-Fi stack. On Linux this removes wifit3's udev and modprobe rules; on Windows it uninstalls the WinUSB binding and triggers a PnP rescan so the original driver reattaches.
