Core Features
- No user identifiers: anonymous by default, no phone, email or username
- End-to-end encryption with double ratchet and extra layer
- Cross-platform: mobile (iOS/Android) and terminal (Linux/macOS/Windows)
- Metadata protection: server cannot see who talks to whom

What It Can't Do
- •Link sharing must be done over a secure channel (e.g., in-person) to avoid man-in-the-middle attacks,No username search; all contacts must be added via shared links, which is less convenient,No cloud backup for message history; uninstalling or clearing data will permanently lose all messages,Terminal version requires manual SMP server configuration, not beginner-friendly
Use Cases
- Private communication for journalists and activists
- Confidential enterprise internal messaging
- Temporary secure conversations without identity traces
Detailed Introduction
SimpleX Chat offers end-to-end encrypted messaging with double ratchet protocol and additional encryption layer. It protects both messages and metadata—who you talk to and when. Available on mobile (Android/iOS) and as a terminal app (Linux, macOS, Windows). No phone number, username, or any identifier required.
Troubleshooting & FAQ (1)
TroubleshootingHow to fix 'segfault in libc.so.6' error when starting SimpleX Chat after a crash?
This was a known bug in SimpleX Chat v6.5.0-beta.1 on Linux (including Flatpak and AppImage). The application would crash after running for some time, and subsequent launches would immediately trigger a segfault in libc's setenv function. The issue was resolved in the stable v6.5.0 release. Update to the latest version. If the problem persists, try removing the SimpleX data directory and reinstalling.
