v0.2.0+26.3-26.51 · 116.4 MB

A blazing-fast Minecraft server written in Rust, supporting Java and Bedrock players with vanilla-faithful mechanics.

Core Features

  • Multi-threaded architecture delivers faster chunk loading than the official server
  • Supports the latest Java Edition, with Bedrock crossplay in progress
  • Simple TOML configuration with toggleable features
  • Works with BungeeCord, BungeeGuard, and Velocity proxies
  • Hardened against known security exploits

What It Can't Do

  • •Pumpkin is under heavy development and has not reached 1.0: combat, redstone, chunk generation, and commands are still incomplete, so it is not recommended for long-running production servers. Existing Bukkit, Spigot, and Paper plugins do not work with it, and its own plugin ecosystem is only beginning to form. Bedrock support is also a work in progress. If you need a stable, fully playable server today, Paper remains the safer choice.

Use Cases

  • Hosting a vanilla survival server with lower RAM and CPU usage
  • Performance-critical large multiplayer worlds on multi-core hardware
  • Developers building custom server-side game logic in Rust
  • Mixed servers for both Java and Bedrock players

Pumpkin is an open-source Minecraft server written entirely in Rust, engineered for speed and efficiency. By leveraging multi-threading, it handles chunk loading, entity ticking, and world saving significantly faster than Mojang's official single-threaded Java server, while using less memory. It stays faithful to vanilla game mechanics and supports the latest Java Edition, with Bedrock Edition crossplay in progress. Compared to Paper, the most popular performance-focused server, Pumpkin trades plugin ecosystem maturity for raw performance and a memory-safe codebase, making it attractive for performance-focused hosts and tinkerers. Configuration uses simple TOML files, unnecessary features can be disabled, and it integrates with BungeeCord, BungeeGuard, and Velocity proxies. The plugin API is dual-licensed MIT/Apache-2.0 to encourage third-party development. Note that Pumpkin is under heavy development: combat, redstone, and chunk generation remain works in progress.
