v5.2.3 · 15.9 MB
A self-hosted podcast downloader with a clean web UI that indexes spoken content for full-text search, like a personal Google for your podcasts.
Core Features
- Podcast download and playback through a responsive web interface
- Full-text search across all spoken content in episodes using Podcasting 2.0 transcripts
- Auto-generate missing transcripts via any OpenAI-compatible Whisper API
- GPodder integration for syncing with your existing podcast app
- Auto-built Docker images on every commit for painless updates via watchtower
What It Can't Do
- •Full-text search depends on available transcripts or Whisper-generated ones; episodes without either won't be searchable
- •Whisper transcription uploads audio to an external AI service, consuming API quotas, and may raise privacy or cost concerns
- •Docker images are built from every commit, so you should use a tool like watchtower to keep your instance current
Use Cases
- Deploy on a NAS or home server to build a personal podcast archive accessible anywhere
- Search across your entire podcast library to find specific discussions or topics within episodes
PodFetch is a self-hosted podcast manager that combines a polished web interface with powerful backend capabilities. Written in Rust with a React frontend, it lets you download episodes and listen to them directly in your browser. Unlike traditional podcast clients that only manage feeds, PodFetch indexes the spoken content of your episodes. It supports Podcasting 2.0 transcripts and provides full-text search across everything said, making it possible to find a specific moment in any episode. Missing transcripts can be auto-generated through any OpenAI-compatible Whisper API. The tool also includes GPodder integration, so users can sync with their existing podcast apps rather than being locked in. Compared to lightweight tools like gpodder, PodFetch distinguishes itself with its self-hosted web UI and transcript search. Docker images are rebuilt on every commit to the main branch, enabling seamless auto-updates via watchtower. The documentation and live demo are available on the project documentation page.
