v0.20.1 · 157.4 MB
A standalone, plugin-powered desktop workspace where AI coding agents actually live and work.
Core Features
- Standalone desktop workspace independent of any IDE or terminal
- Plugins can add UI panels, floating widgets, agent tools, themes, MCP servers, and background services
- Multi-agent orchestration via subagents and parallel worker sessions
- Model-agnostic: OpenAI, Anthropic, Ollama, LM Studio, and custom gateways
- Persistent sessions that survive app restarts, with branching and archiving
What It Can't Do
- •This is an early preview release (0.21.x), so expect rough edges and breaking changes. The app does not include model access—you must bring your own API key or local model, and cloud usage incurs API costs. Running multiple agents in parallel multiplies token consumption. It cannot replace human code review; always verify agent changes. Check LGPL-3.0 compliance before derivative or commercial distribution.
Use Cases
- Everyday coding: let the agent read, edit, run, and test code iteratively
- Risky refactors: review the implementation plan before any execution
- Long-running tasks: split frontend, backend, and tests across parallel worker agents
- Custom workflows: install or build plugins like voice agents or DevOps consoles
PI-Desktop is an open-source (LGPL-3.0), local-first desktop workspace built for AI coding agents, combining an Electron shell, a Rust host core, and a user-installable plugin system. Compared with terminal-centric tools like Claude Code or IDE extensions such as GitHub Copilot and Cline, its key advantage is independence: projects, sessions, reviews, and previews live in a dedicated desktop environment rather than being chained to one editor or terminal. Its second differentiator is depth of extensibility—plugins can add not just agent tools but also UI panels, floating widgets, themes, MCP servers, and background services, distributed via a marketplace or .piplug packages. It supports three work modes (Agent, Plan, Goal), multi-agent orchestration with parallel worker sessions, and persistent sessions that survive restarts. Model-agnostic by design, it works with OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenAI-compatible APIs, custom gateways, Ollama, and LM Studio. Currently in early preview (0.21.x) and cross-platform on macOS, Windows, and Linux.

unsloth
Unsloth is the first desktop app to run and train AI models locally. It supports a wide range of models including Qwen3.8, Kimi K3, MiniMax-H3, Gemma 4, DeepSeek-V4, and FLUX. Unlike most local model tools that focus only on inference, Unsloth adds a full training stack: fine-tune LLMs, diffusion, TTS, and embedding models 2× faster with 70% less VRAM. It also supports LoRA, QLoRA, RL, GRPO, DPO, and FP8. The app includes built-in Agents & Tools integration (Claude Code, Codex, MCP), private search and RAG, image/video diffusion, and audio support. With hardware support for CPU, NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, macOS, and multi-GPU setups, plus remote access via Cloudflare, Unsloth is a comprehensive local AI studio. It can export to GGUF, NVFP4, FP8 and offers an OpenAI-compatible API for easy deployment.
