v0.0.21 · 55.7 MB
A self-hosted visual CMS that publishes clean static pages — own your site instead of renting it.
Core Features
- Visual canvas editor with side-by-side breakpoint editing and full-page live mode
- Core Framework design tokens built in: auto-generated color scales, fluid type, and spacing
- AI agent builds real editable nodes on the canvas using your own Claude, OpenAI, or Ollama model
- Publishes clean semantic static HTML with zero framework runtime or builder attributes
- Unified content model with custom collections, built-in forms, media manager, and 38-capability roles
What It Can't Do
- •You must host it yourself — there is no free official SaaS, so server costs, backups, and HTTPS are your responsibility. The project is early-stage, so expect breaking changes and back up your database before upgrading. AI features require your own model API key, billed to your account. It is a web-based admin tool, not a desktop app. Choose Postgres for multi-author teams; SQLite only suits single small sites.
Use Cases
- Personal blogs, portfolios, and small business sites that should load like static files
- Teams wanting a Webflow-style editor without per-site SaaS subscription fees
- WordPress refugees who want clean output and no plugin maintenance burden
- Multi-author content sites needing roles, drafts, scheduling, and version history
Instatic is an open-source, self-hosted visual CMS that bundles a canvas editor, content engine, media library, forms, auth, and a static publisher into a single Bun server backed by SQLite or Postgres. Its standout trait is the output: pages ship as plain semantic HTML and compact CSS with no framework runtime, no builder attributes, and no div soup, so sites load like static files. Compared to WordPress, it needs no plugin stack to stay fast and secure; compared to Webflow or Framer, it is MIT-licensed and fully self-hosted, so you own your data and pay no per-site subscription. The editor edits desktop and mobile breakpoints side by side, with the Core Framework design-token system built in for colors, fluid type, and spacing. A built-in AI agent builds real editable nodes on the canvas using your own Claude, OpenAI, or Ollama key. Deploy in one click on Railway or via a single Docker image.
