Full-featured open-source event management system by CERN

Core Features

  • Hierarchical event content management
  • Complete conference workflow: call for abstracts, review, registration, payment, timetable, badges
  • Room booking and video conferencing integration
  • Drag-and-drop timetable editor
  • Plugin-based extensibility

What It Can't Do

  • Self-hosting requires Linux and Docker knowledge; not a one-click install. 2. Plugin ecosystem is smaller than commercial tools like Cvent or Eventbrite. 3. Only modern browsers are fully supported. 4. The sandbox is for evaluation only and data is periodically wiped.

Use Cases

  • Managing academic conferences from call for papers to final schedule
  • Internal corporate workshops with registration and check-in
  • Visual room booking for organizations with multiple meeting spaces

Indico is a powerful, web-based event management tool originally created by CERN. It supports everything from small meetings to large international conferences. Key features include hierarchical event organization, call for abstracts with peer review, flexible registration forms with payment integration, paper review workflows, drag-and-drop timetable management, badge printing, room booking, and video conferencing integration. It is fully extensible via plugins and released under the MIT license. Indico is used by universities, research institutions, and organizations worldwide for managing scientific and professional events.
