FreeToken

FreeToken is an edge-native inference engine that runs 290B+ parameter MoE models like DeepSeek locally on a gaming PC. Unlike Ollama or llama.cpp, its bandwidth-adaptive CPU–GPU co-execution keeps massive models interactive on consumer GPUs.

Run 290B+ parameter MoE models locally on your gaming PC at interactive speeds.

Core Features

  • Bandwidth-adaptive CPU–GPU co-execution runs 290B+ parameter MoE models at interactive speeds on consumer GPUs
  • Anthropic/OpenAI-compatible APIs plug directly into coding agents like Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode
  • Semantic-aware caching and elastic VRAM management reallocate memory at runtime without engine restarts
  • Easy-to-use desktop app for Windows and Linux plus a Python CLI for scripted deployments
  • Native support for NVIDIA RTX 30/40/50 series GPUs and multiple quantization formats (MXFP4, NVFP4, FP8, BF16)

What It Can't Do

  • •Only Windows and Linux are supported, with no macOS version. Compatibility is guaranteed only for NVIDIA RTX 30/40/50 series GPUs; AMD and integrated graphics are not covered. Massive models still require large amounts of system RAM and disk space, and speeds drop noticeably on low-end hardware. Model weights are not bundled and must be downloaded separately, potentially consuming dozens or hundreds of gigabytes. The project is relatively young, so treat headline performance claims as best-case figures.

Use Cases

  • Run frontier open-weight models like DeepSeek fully offline for private chat and writing
  • Power local AI coding agents such as Claude Code or Codex without paying cloud API fees
  • Experiment with giant MoE models for research or development without datacenter GPUs

FreeToken brings datacenter-scale model serving to personal hardware. It is an edge-native Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) serving engine that lets frontier open-weight models with 290B+ parameters run locally on gaming desktops, laptops, and workstation GPUs at interactive speeds. Its key technical advantage is bandwidth-adaptive CPU–GPU co-execution combined with a global LRU expert cache and the FTW fast weight format, which together make giant sparse models practical on a single consumer PC. It also offers semantic-aware KV caching that avoids recomputing context when agents edit tool calls or thinking blocks, plus elastic memory management that reallocates VRAM between expert caches and KV memory at runtime without restarts. FreeToken exposes Anthropic/OpenAI-compatible APIs, so it plugs directly into coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode. Compared with Ollama or llama.cpp, which mainly target dense models, FreeToken is purpose-built for huge MoE models; compared with vLLM, it targets edge hardware instead of datacenter clusters. A desktop app for Windows and Linux provides a GUI, while a Python CLI supports scripted deployment. Native support covers NVIDIA RTX 30, 40, and 50 series GPUs. Apache-2.0 licensed.

Uninstall Info

Uninstall the desktop app through your system's application settings; for the CLI version, run pip uninstall freetoken. Afterwards, manually delete the downloaded model weights and cache directories in your user folder, as they can occupy tens of gigabytes of disk space.

No Extra Dependencies

Ready to use after download. No additional runtime required.
