TroubleshootingHow to fix Files app home page freezing or hanging for 20 seconds when the tags widget is enabled?
This is a known performance issue in Files v4.0.11 on Windows. The active tags widget can repeatedly load tag elements, causing the home page to become unresponsive and leaving duplicate tag items. Workaround: disable the tags widget in the Files home page/widget settings, then fully close and restart Files. The home page should load normally afterward. Keep the widget disabled until a patched version is released.
How-toHow to run the first command palette result with Enter key in Files app for Windows?
In Files 2.5.22 and earlier, the command palette does not pre-select any item, so pressing Enter does nothing until you manually focus a result with the mouse or arrow keys. This was fixed in a later update: upgrade Files to the latest version via the Microsoft Store. The first matching result is now highlighted by default, so typing a command (e.g., "rec") and pressing Enter executes it immediately, similar to VS Code's command palette.
