One desktop app to visually manage Codex prompts, API providers, sessions, Skills/MCP and configs.
Core Features
- Visual prompt injection center with 5 offline built-in templates, GitHub sync, Markdown import and one-click toggles
- Provider/API manager for multiple named official logins and third-party APIs, with connection tests, model fetching and cc-switch import
- Session search, project grouping, provider sync and precise single/bulk/project-level deletion
- Visual Skills/MCP management with ZIP install, per-item toggles and update checks
- Live config.toml and auth.json viewing/editing with automatic backups before important writes
What It Can't Do
- •This is not Codex itself: you must install the OpenAI Codex desktop app or CLI first. Session deletion is permanent and unrecoverable, so close affected Codex windows and double-check the list before confirming. Some bundled templates are jailbreak-style prompts that may violate OpenAI's terms of service and put your account at risk; third-party API relays carry similar ToS and key-security concerns. The 1M context option only works if the model supports it. This is a third-party tool, not an official OpenAI product.
Use Cases
- Switching between the official Codex login and multiple third-party API relays without editing TOML files
- Maintaining a personal prompt template library and toggling prompts per task like plugins
- Cleaning up long-accumulated Codex session history organized by project path
- Managing Codex Skills and MCP servers in one UI instead of hunting through directories
Detailed Introduction
Codex-X is a cross-platform desktop tool (Windows/macOS/Linux, built with Tauri 2, React and Rust) that turns OpenAI Codex desktop/CLI configuration into a visual workflow. It offers a prompt injection center with 5 offline built-in templates plus GitHub-synced and custom Markdown prompts; multi-profile Provider/API management with connection testing, model fetching and cc-switch import; session search, grouping, sync and precise deletion; visual Skills/MCP management; live TOML/auth viewing; and token usage stats by date and model, with automatic backups before important writes. Compared with cc-switch, which only switches providers, Codex-X manages the entire Codex workflow in one place.

On Windows, uninstall via Settings > Apps or Control Panel; on macOS, drag the app to Trash; on Linux, remove it with your package manager. Uninstalling only removes Codex-X itself and does not revert changes it made to Codex configs, so restore backups and disable injected prompts inside the app first, then clean up the Codex config directory manually if needed.
