Run ChatGPT Web models natively inside Codex using your existing subscription, without burning Codex quota.
Core Features
- Access ChatGPT Web models including Pro tiers from Codex's native model picker
- Uses ChatGPT Web's separate usage limits instead of your Codex quota
- Full Harness mode connects tool calls to local files and terminal via MCP
- Three modes: Browser-only, Full Harness, and manual Zero Risk
- Embedded browser and runtime, no separate Chrome, Node or Bun needed
What It Can't Do
- •This is unofficial browser automation, not an official OpenAI API, so ChatGPT UI changes can temporarily break functionality. It is not affiliated with OpenAI and must only be used with your own account in compliance with OpenAI's Terms of Use. Builds are not platform-signed, so macOS Gatekeeper or Windows SmartScreen may show warnings. The browser profile stores your login session and should never be shared; use only on a trusted personal machine. Read the architecture and security model docs before enabling Full Harness mode, which permits file-write operations.
Use Cases
- ChatGPT Plus/Pro subscribers who want AI coding in Codex without paying extra API fees
- Continuing work on ChatGPT Web limits after exhausting Codex quota
- Coding tasks where the AI needs direct access to local files and terminal commands
- Cautious users who prefer manually reviewing each step via Zero Risk mode
codex-chatgpt-web is a cross-platform launcher that brings ChatGPT Web models (including Pro tiers like GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-6 Sol) into Codex's native model picker. Compared with typical ChatGPT-to-API proxy tools, it offers two distinct advantages: first, it integrates natively with Codex so conversations stay tied to your coding task with full context, streaming and image support; second, its Full Harness mode connects ChatGPT's tool calls back to your local files and terminal through the official OpenAI tunnel-client via MCP, something simple API wrappers cannot do. It uses ChatGPT Web's separate usage limits instead of your Codex quota. Three modes are available: Browser-only, Full Harness (with automation), and Zero Risk (manual paste-and-send). The app ships with its own embedded browser and runtime, so no separate Chrome, Node or Bun installation is required. Supports Windows x64, macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), and Linux x64.

Before uninstalling, open the launcher's Settings and remove the Codex integration first, then uninstall the app itself. For a complete cleanup, delete the configuration folder in your user directory (e.g., ~/.codex-chatgpt-web). Avoid deleting the browser profile while still logged in, to prevent leaving residual login credentials behind.
