A lightweight self-hosted CalDAV/CardDAV server for syncing calendars and contacts.
Core Features
- CalDAV & CardDAV support for calendars, tasks, and contacts
- Web-based admin interface for user and resource management
- Lightweight – runs on any PHP-enabled server, including Raspberry Pi
- Wide client compatibility (Thunderbird, iOS, macOS, Android via DavX5, Outlook plugins)
- Multilingual installation guides available
What It Can't Do
- •SSL is not enabled by default – use a reverse proxy with HTTPS. 2. MySQL requires a pre-created empty database. 3. Ensure the 'data' directory is writable by the web server. 4. Does not support external calendar subscriptions (iCalendar feeds).
Use Cases
- Personal or family self-hosted sync replacing iCloud/Google
- Small business intranet for shared calendars and contacts
- Privacy-conscious users who want full control over their data
Baïkal is an open-source CalDAV and CardDAV server that allows you to synchronize your calendars, tasks, and contacts across multiple devices. Built on top of the sabre/dav library, it provides a simple web interface for managing users, calendars, and address books. It is significantly lighter than full-stack solutions like Nextcloud, making it ideal for Raspberry Pi, old hardware, or minimal Docker setups. Baïkal supports CalDAV (RFC 4791), CardDAV (RFC 6352), WebDAV, and iMIP. It works with most clients such as Thunderbird, iOS, macOS Calendar, Android (via DavX5), and Outlook (via additional plugins). The project also offers detailed guides in German and French for non‑tech users.
