browser-use/browser-use

AI agents that control a browser to complete web tasks autonomously.

Overview

Browser Use is a Python library that lets LLM-based agents drive a real browser through Playwright. It handles clicking, typing, form submission and structured data extraction, and can run locally or via the hosted cloud service.

You describe the task, and it completes it. For example, you can have it:\n\n\n### 📋 Fill Forms\n#### Task: "Fill in this job application with my resume and information."\n\n\n\n[Example code ↗](https://github.com/browser-use/browser-use/blob/main/examples/use-cases/apply_to_job.py)\n\n\n### 🍎 Extract data\n#### Task: "Extract structured data about my followers and export it as a CSV."\n\nhttps://github.com/user-attachments/assets/485fd3ec-61b9-4afc-9e86-ee9b85acb592\n\n[Browser Use Cloud Docs ↗](https://docs.browser-use.com/cloud/quickstart)\n\n\n\n\n# Start with Browser Use Cloud\n\nEligible new Google, GitHub or Microsoft signups get a one-time **$15 Cloud credit**. Troubleshooting
How to fix 'An Application Control policy has blocked this file' (WinError 4551) when running browser-use on Windows 11?

This is not malware: Windows 11 Smart App Control (SAC) blocks the unsigned browser-use.exe console-script launcher that uv/uvx generates (Code Integrity events 3033/3077, Authenticode status NotSigned). Consumer SAC has no per-app allowlist, so there is no toggle to exempt it.

Workaround: bypass the unsigned .exe stub entirely by invoking the package through the Python interpreter instead:

python -m browser-use <command>

or via uv:

uv run python -m browser-use <command>

This skips the blocked PE launcher and runs the CLI through the trusted interpreter, restoring local Chrome/CDP and Browser Use Cloud sessions.

Other options:
- On enterprise-managed devices, an admin can add a narrowly scoped App Control/WDAC policy (prefer publisher rules for a signed release; hash rules break on every update).
- Use a CDP-backed automation backend that does not invoke the local Browser Use CLI.
- Do NOT disable Smart App Control just to run the launcher; it weakens system-wide code-execution protection.

Permanent fix: upstream needs to ship an Authenticode-signed Windows CLI/installer with Microsoft reputation. Track this in browser-use issue #5539.
